How to transcribe WhatsApp voice messages on Android
Updated on October 25, 2026
On Android, the quickest way to turn a WhatsApp voice message into text is the Share menu, with the site installed as an app. One tap on the message, one on PegaFala, and the text shows up. If you’d rather not install anything, there is a route with two extra steps. The tool lives on the WhatsApp audio to text page.
Before you start
- Use Chrome. The Share shortcut only works with the site installed from Chrome. Opera usually works too; Samsung Internet only on Galaxy phones. Firefox doesn’t.
- View-once messages can’t be shared. WhatsApp doesn’t let you save or share them.
- Up to 5 minutes comes out in full. Longer messages get the first minute as a preview.
1. Install the site as an app (once)
- Open pegafala.com.br in Chrome.
- Tap the three dots at the top.
- Tap Install app or Add to Home screen and confirm.
The icon appears on your home screen like any app. Inside the tool, the “WhatsApp voice message? Here’s how to send it” help also shows an Install the app button when Chrome offers it.
2. Share the voice message
- In WhatsApp, open the chat and press and hold the voice message until it’s selected.
- Tap the three dots at the top and Share.
- Pick PegaFala from the list.
The app opens with the audio already loaded. If it fits the limit, the transcript starts on its own; if it’s longer than 5 minutes, the screen asks whether you want the first minute. When the text appears, tap Copy text.
If PegaFala doesn’t show up in Share
- It wasn’t installed from Chrome. Remove the shortcut and install it again from Chrome’s menu.
- You just installed it. Android can take a few minutes to list a new app in Share. Open the app once and try again.
- The list is cut off. Scroll to the end of the Share list or tap More.
- Your phone doesn’t report the file type. Use the no-install route below.
If the screen says “We didn’t receive the audio. Choose the file here.”, Chrome didn’t hand over the file. Use the no-install route.
No install: save it and pick it
The WhatsApp audio folder is hidden on current Android versions, so the file picker can’t see it. Save the message somewhere visible first:
- In WhatsApp, press and hold the message, tap the three dots and Share.
- Pick Files (or Save to Drive) and save it, for example, in Downloads.
- Open pegafala.com.br, tap Choose audio and pick the saved file.
The WhatsApp file ends in .opus. It works here without converting.
After the text
- Copy text puts everything on your clipboard, ready to paste into a chat, an email or your notes.
- Other formats downloads the TXT and VTT. The SRT subtitles are for putting the text on a video.
- Another language redoes the text if the audio is in another language than the page.
The text stays only on your phone, and the audio is deleted from our server as soon as the transcript is ready.
