Free, no sign-up. Your audio is deleted as soon as the transcript is ready.

How to make SRT subtitles in 3 steps

  1. Choose the audio or video

    Tap Choose audio and pick the file. On a computer, drop it on the card.

  2. Wait for the transcript

    The screen shows the upload and the line. A 1-minute video takes about 30 seconds.

  3. Download the SRT subtitles

    The button stands out in the result. VTT and TXT are under Other formats.

On this page, the main button in the result is the subtitles. The plain text is still there, with Copy text. If you only need the text of an interview or meeting, voice recording to text is more direct.

What the file looks like

Each line of speech becomes a block with a number, a start and end time, and the text:

1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:02,040
Hi, how's it going? Today I'll show you

2
00:00:02,040 --> 00:00:04,800
how to add subtitles to your video.

SRT uses a comma before the milliseconds. VTT, for web players, uses a period and starts with a WEBVTT line. Which one to pick: SRT vs VTT.

Using it in editors

  • CapCut (desktop): open the project, go to Text or Captions and import the SRT.
  • Premiere Pro: File, Import, pick the SRT and drag it to the timeline.
  • DaVinci Resolve: import the SRT into the Media Pool and drag it to a subtitle track.
  • YouTube Studio: Subtitles, Add language, Upload file, With timing.

Menu names change between versions, but all of them take SRT.

Before you publish

The subtitles are good with clear speech, but worth a check:

  • names and brands, written the way the AI heard them;
  • numbers, which may come out as words;
  • parts with music or overlapping voices.

Why is my transcript wrong covers the causes.

Limits

Up to 5 minutes and 25 MB per file. Longer files get subtitles for the first minute. Each file uses 1 of 4 transcripts every 15 minutes. For heavy videos, see video to text.

Privacy

The file is deleted as soon as the transcript is ready, and the subtitles go only to your device. More in the privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

What is an SRT file?

A text file with numbered lines and the start and end time of each one. Almost every video editor and player accepts it. How it differs from VTT is in SRT vs VTT.

Does it work in CapCut?

Yes. In CapCut for desktop, import the SRT from the captions menu. The phone app doesn’t always offer file import; in that case, use the desktop version or paste the text.

Are the timings accurate?

They follow the speech within fractions of a second. If you cut the video after making the subtitles, make them again from the final version.

Can I edit the SRT?

Yes. It’s plain text: open it in any text editor or in your video editor, fix words and save. Just don’t change the time lines by accident.

How long is each subtitle?

Each block follows a sentence or a natural chunk of speech. In your editor, you can split long blocks.

What if my video is longer than 5 minutes?

You get subtitles for the first minute. For the whole video, split it into parts of up to 5 minutes and make subtitles for each.

Are the subtitles translated?

No. They come out in the spoken language. If the audio is in another language, tap Change before uploading.

Does the file keep my video's name?

No. It comes out as pegafala-transcricao.srt, a neutral name you can rename.

Do you keep my video?

No. The file is deleted as soon as the transcript is ready, and the subtitles go only to your device.
