How to transcribe audio in 3 steps
Choose the audio
Tap Choose audio and pick the file. On a computer, you can also drop it on the card.
Wait a few seconds
The upload starts on its own and the screen shows the progress. A 1-minute file takes about 30 seconds.
Copy or download
Use Copy text or download the SRT subtitles. VTT and TXT are under Other formats.
The audio language starts as the page’s language. If the audio is in another language, tap Change before you pick the file.
What works
- WhatsApp voice messages, including forwarded ones and WhatsApp Business.
- Phone recordings, interviews and short meetings.
- Videos from your phone, as MP4 or MOV: only the sound is used.
- Short lectures and talks, or the part you need from a long one.
Need subtitles for a video? The SRT subtitle generator page shows how to use the file in CapCut and other editors.
Free, no sign-up
Up to 5 minutes per file and 4 transcripts every 15 minutes, with no daily cap. Longer files get a preview of the first minute, so you can check the quality. Audio with no speech and failed attempts don’t count.
Use it responsibly
Upload audio that is yours or that you have the right to use. A voice message someone sent you is a private conversation: keep the text for yourself and don’t publish other people’s words without permission. The audio is deleted as soon as the transcript is ready.

Formats and size
OPUS and OGG (WhatsApp voice messages), M4A (iPhone recordings), MP3, WAV, MP4 and MOV work, and so do WebM, AAC, FLAC and AMR. Files can be up to 25 MB. A 5-minute WhatsApp voice message is under 1 MB; a WAV file goes over 25 MB in less than 3 minutes, so M4A or MP3 is the better choice. For videos, only the sound is used.
From WhatsApp to the site
On Android, with the site installed as an app from Chrome, the voice message arrives through Share and the transcript starts on its own (Android steps). On iPhone, save the message to Files and pick it here (iPhone steps). On a computer, download it from WhatsApp Web and drop it on the card (how to export it).
Transcript quality
One person speaking close to the mic comes out almost error-free. Wind, loud music, people talking over each other, sped-up audio and unusual names get in the way. Why is my transcript wrong shows how to fix it.
What we keep
The audio sits in a temporary folder in our server’s memory only while it is transcribed, and is deleted right after, whether it worked or not. The transcript is not stored on the server: it goes to your device and disappears when you close the tab. Transcription runs on our own server; only when the queue is full can a backup service receive the converted audio, never your IP. Details in the privacy policy.
Why there is a limit
Every minute of audio uses our server’s processor, which serves everyone, one transcript at a time. The 5-minute limit per file and 4 transcripts every 15 minutes keep the site free and fast.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It’s free and there’s no sign-up. Each file uses 1 of 4 transcripts every 15 minutes, with no daily cap. Ads keep the site running.
How do I send a WhatsApp voice message here?
On Android, through Share, with the site installed from Chrome. On iPhone, by saving the message to Files. On a computer, by downloading it from WhatsApp Web. Each path is on the WhatsApp audio page.
Which file formats work?
OPUS, OGG, M4A, MP3, WAV, MP4 and MOV, plus WebM, AAC, FLAC and AMR. The server checks the content, not the file name: anything that isn’t audio or video is turned down without using your limit.
What is the maximum file size?
25 MB. Your device checks before uploading, so no data is wasted. For bigger files, see how to trim and shrink an audio file.
What if my audio is longer than 5 minutes?
You get the first minute as a preview, and the screen warns you before uploading when it can read the length. The preview counts as 1 transcript. For the rest, trim the part you need and send it again.
Do you keep my audio or the transcript?
No. The audio is deleted as soon as the transcript is ready, and the text goes only to your device. None of it goes into a cache, a backup or a log.
Does it work with audio in other languages?
Yes. Before uploading, tap Change to pick Portuguese, English, Spanish or Detect. If the text comes out in the wrong language, Another language redoes it with the same file, and your first change of the day is free.
Will the transcript be perfect?
It’s good with one person speaking clearly, but not perfect. Check names, numbers and technical terms before you use it. It is not a certified transcript for court.
Can I transcribe a video?
Yes, if the file is yours: MP4 and MOV work here and only the sound is used. See video to text. For a public Reel or TikTok, use video link to text.
